Volunteer Opportunities
- Hotline Counselor – Listening skills needed! Respond to crisis calls when the office is closed from your home phone, providing the first response to clients in crisis. Flexible schedule. Some face-to-face contact with clients in crisis. Reaching Out – Enjoy meeting people while distributing our materials in Boone, Polk, Butler, Nance, Platte, or Colfax counties.
- Pet Therapy – Help brighten the lives of women and children in shelter. Teach kindness, tolerance and respect for life by visiting clients with your trained pet. Lots of contact with children!
- Safe Homes – Private homes which provide a safe, non-threatening environment for clients and their children who need to leave an abusive home. Ususally a 2 to 3 day stay.
- Women’s Support Group – Help our Women’s Group Facilitator to provide a safe atmosphere for women to share their experiences and receive support in a group setting.
- Pet Foster Homes – Provide 24 hour care in your home for pets that belong to families being sheltered. A great project for animal lovers!
- Children’s Group Helper – Help our Children’s Advocate to facilitate kid’s group play and kid’s workshops on Thursday evenings. Only 1 1/2 hours per month commitment. Huggers and rockers welcome!
- Other Opportunities – Help with our newsletter mailing, handyman projects & repairs, cleaning, raking, transportation for clients, or any other talents you may want to share.
- Bilingual volunteers are desperately needed in all of the above positions.
- Teen Peer Educators – High School and College-age teens from the Speakers Bureau educate their peers about dating violence. For more information about the Teen Peer Eduators, checkout our Speakers Bureau page.
- All volunteers will take part in a training course to prepare them to provide help to victims of sexual assault and domestic violence.
