Community Awareness
October was Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Throughout our six county service area of Boone, Colfax, Nance, Platte, and Polk counties, several displays were set up to raise awareness. The “Empty Place at the Table” place settings are donated by families of victims who have been murdered in acts of domestic violence in our service area, and serve as a reminder that domestic violence can be deadly. Three life-sized wooden cut-outs called the “Red People”, were displayed also to represent the victims who have been murdered in acts of violence, and also serve as a reminder that domestic violence can be deadly. The “Clothesline Project” was displayed in order to represent survivors of domestic violence. It is a graphic display that depicts the horrors of violence against women.
